Our History:
A Legacy of Excellence

Katayama brings decades of Japanese manufacturing expertise to North America.

Under the leadership of our original president, Kakuji Katayama, our first facility was established in 1947 in Ibara, Japan.

From these humble beginnings, Katayama built a reputation for precision manufacturing and long-term partnerships—values that continue to define us today.

We have cultivated a company culture grounded in community, respect, and pride in one’s work—a culture that became a driving force behind our success. This foundation continues to shape how we operate globally, where building community and fostering a strong, inclusive workplace remains central to our philosophy and practices.

From Japan to the United States

In 1988, Katayama expanded internationally with the founding of Katayama American Company, Inc. (KACI) in Shelbyville, Kentucky. This strategic move allowed us to better serve our North American OEM partners with localized support, shorter lead times, and direct access to Katayama's advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Since then, KACI has grown alongside our customers, becoming a trusted supplier across multiple generations of vehicle platforms.

With the original facility established in 1947, Katayama quickly became a trusted supplier to many major Japanese OEMs. Through early advancements in automotive fuel pipe manufacturing and global partnerships in door sash and molding technology, Katayama established the foundation for the manufacturing excellence we deliver today.
